Zilterio" Sought by FBI for Internet Extortion
"Mr. Zilterio" is
an Internet blackmailer who hacks into corporate networks,
steals sensitive data and then demands thousands of
dollars of "quiet money". If a company refuses to
pay he will exact his revenge by spamming the company's
customers using a customer list that he had previously
stolen. The spam is meant to damage the company by
informing its customers that their data is not being
guarded properly. He proves this by including names,
phone numbers, credit card number and social security
numbers in the body of the email. According to "Mr.
Zilterio", nine firms have paid him a combined total of
$150,000. And his explanation for granting MCNBC.com
an email interview is so that future "clients" know he
means business.
