 Cisco's
Upgraded Storage Software
Cisco has
released the latest version of software for storage
switches. It promises that this software will
improve information sharing and prioritize data traffic.
This is the latest version for Cisco's MDS 9000 switches
used in storage area networks (SANs) which are networks
designed for more efficient use of data and easier
management. With the problem of excess traffic
plaguing the use of a single massive storage network,
Cisco has decided to use distinct storage networks with
their own policies that are established within the overall
network, called virtual SANs (VSANs).

Licensing for Microsoft Office 2003
Microsoft
released statements that it would license XML based file
formats used in Office 2003 on a royalty-free basis.
The purpose of this is to give companies access to
documents used in the latest edition of its Office
applications. Microsoft came upon this decision due
to requests from its software partners as well as
corporate and government customers. This licensing
program will allow third party companies or customers to
incorporate the Office operations into their software as
well as Office documents.

the Tech Slump Ending?
An analyst firm has reported that the high-tech industry's
slump could be over. The firm predicts that the first
significant increase in technology and telecom spending
since 2000 will be seen next year. Spending on
information technology should grow by 5% to $916 billion and
purchases of telecom services should rise 4% to $1 trillion
next year. This is an improvement from the 1% decline
in spending during 2001 and the 4% decline in 2002.
The reason for this growth is the improving business
confidence and pent-up demand for technology products and
services at companies who controlled their spending in the
past few years.
