 Cisco
vulnerabilities attacked
A security warning was issued by Cisco Systems after the
internet published a new software code. Certain
vulnerabilities on several networking products were
targeted. The "BlackAngels," teenagers from Italy,
wrote the software code exploiting nine vulnerabilities
found on Cisco's Internetwork Operating System (IOS).
Many of the vulnerabilities have been found and addressed
and Cisco has published software upgrades as well as
workaround scenarios to help customers protect their
networks. These vulnerabilities caused Cisco routers
and switches to become more susceptible to distributed
denial-of-service attacks.

 Dell
loads Oracle software on computer servers
Dell is to begin
selling database software from Oracle Corp. that is
pre-loaded into its computer servers. At a joint
press release, both companies said they will work together
more closely, particularly on the Linux operating system
and grid computing, focusing in China. Dell and
Oracle signed a deal about a year ago and the number of
Oracle installations has grown to 30,000 from about
15,000, according to Dell Chairman Michael Dell.

 Microsoft
security on the road
To help
developers and information system managers learn to better
protect their systems, Microsoft is sending executives to
20 cities across the United States for free training.
Dubbed as the Security Summits, Microsoft wants "to make
sure that customers have a security strategy," according
to Mike Nash, vice president for Microsoft's Security
Business unit. The Security Summits kicked off in
New York City with free day-long classes. Customers
can attend the basic track or a track for more advanced
system administrators. Microsoft hopes to train
500,000 information workers be the end of the year.
