 Pre-installed
network security offered by Microsoft
Microsoft announced that it would start selling computers
that come pre-installed with network security software.
The software, Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA)
Server, is due out later this year and Microsoft is
working with hardware partners such as Hewlett-Packard and
Network Engines. Available in the third quarter of
2004, the price for ISA Server 2004 is $1,499 per main
microprocessor chip, per server.

 Teenager
charged as virus suspect
A teenager has
been charged by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in
connection with a worm that could be used to create zombie
computers for delivering spam. The 16-year-old from
Mississauga, Ontario is charged with mischief against data
and fraudulent use of a computer as well a several other
charges. The charges are related to the Randex worm,
which along with its variants contain a list of commonly
used passwords used to hack into Microsoft Windows based
systems.

 Cisco's
application for technology patents
To fix a
flaw that has recently been found in one of the most
common communications protocols, Cisco Systems has applied
for patents on technology. The protocol, TCP or
Transmission Control Protocol is used for sending data
over the Internet. The flaw was found by security
expert Paul Watson who is a security specialist for
Rockwell Automation. The vulnerability falsely
terminates an established TCP connection or session
between two different devices. This vulnerability is
known as a reset attack.
