Pays Settlement in Customer Data Theft
The
Alpharetta, GA-based company ChoicePoint has to pay $10
million in fines and an additional $5 million to
compensate consumers for violating consumer privacy rights
and federal laws. The ruling was given by the
Federal Trade Commission on January 26, 2006. The
personal information of a possible 145,000 people was
stolen and at least 750 people were defrauded. To
