Overview

This course is to provide Microsoft® Windows NT® 4.0 support professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to support Microsoft Windows® 2000–based networks. This is a performance-based course, designed around the job-related tasks a support professional must perform using new or modified features in the Windows 2000 operating system.

This course will help the student prepare for the following Microsoft Certified Professional exam:
Exam 70-240: Microsoft Windows 2000 Accelerated Exam for MCPs Certified on Microsoft Windows NT 4.0

Install, configure, & troubleshoot the DNS Server Service
Explain the relationship between Active Directory structure & network organization

Prerequisites

NT-803: Administering Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 or
equivalent skills and knowledge including
:

Creating & administering user & group accounts
Troubleshooting problems that prevent users from logging onto a network; managing network resources
Setting up & administering permissions for files & folders
Taking ownership of folders
Troubleshooting when users are unable to gain access to disk resources
Setting up a printing environment
Administering printers
Troubleshooting printing problems
Monitoring network resources
Backing up & restoring files & folders
Administering the Windows NT Server & Windows NT Workstation operating systems in real-world situations

NT-922: Supporting Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Core Technologies or equivalent skills and knowledge including:
Installing & configuring Windows NT
Creating & implementing system policies
Creating & managing partitions, file systems, & fault-tolerant volumes
Supporting running applications under Windows NT
Identifying network components & describing their function on a Windows NT-based computer
Installing & configuring network transport protocols
Installing & configuring network services on Windows NT Server
Implementing remote access service (RAS)
Installing client software
Implementing & troubleshooting directory replication
Recognizing problems related to the boot process
Determining the appropriate action to take for common problems
A thorough understanding of DHCP, WINS, & Internet Protocol (IP) subnetting & routing
Experience supporting networks & end users
